  主要通过宏观(形态学、分类学、组织学、显微镜像和CT、生物学)与微观分子生物学(线粒体DNA、微卫星、基因组)相结合的技术手段,对特定水域鱼类多样性保护和适应演化进行系统的调查和研究;研究类群涵盖软骨鱼类和硬骨鱼类,研究区域远及青藏高原及南大洋。参与对鱼类资源调查和种质保护至关重要的标本采集和数据采集规范程序的制作;在第36次中国南极科学考察中,与兄弟单位联手完成了南大洋水深1000的中水层鱼类调查。在 Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science,Frontiers in Marine Science,Reviews in Aquaculture,Fish and Fisheries, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society,Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, iScience等学术期刊上发表了多篇研究论文。参与FAO,IUCN等国际组织对西北太平洋海域软骨鱼类资源和物种濒危状况的评估,并与多国学者一同完成数十篇报告的撰写。
